What is the best way to find a rental house in South Charlotte?

My fiance and I are on a tight time schedule as we are supposed to move in three weeks. We had a bad experience with a realtor and the house we were planning to live in fell through. We have checked MLS and nothing there really works for us in our budget. 30 minutes' drive or less to Ballantyne, 2+ bedrooms, under $1000 a month. Good neighborhood. Garage or fireplace a plus.
