My cat problems! Help me!?

My cat Mittens is a female. when Mittens sits on the windowsill and you go and stroke her after about 3 strokes he will turn and bite your arm. why? Another thing, if you are walking near Mittens she might attack your legs? Why? She dose this sometimes but none of us know why, do you?
